(May contain Spoilers)
The New Monte Vista Village:
The Village is the central character in the Survivor Diaries Series of novels. The lives of this band of survivors are reliant on the society they have created, but the fate of the Village hangs precariously in the balance from threats both seen and unseen.
Laura Patton:
The Village Leader. After the Last War, Laura finds herself guiding a group of fragile survivors of a global nuclear apocalypse. Laura is a straight forward, honest leader—most of the Villagers trust her emphatically. Laura is flawed; however, some of her perceived flaws—such as her ability to tap into her humanity through raw emotion—are really her super powers. When she finds herself both attracted and repulsed to the mysterious Colonel Jackson, she is faced with the decision to leave the man whom she is bound to by the sanctity of marriage, for the man who has held back the truth from her time and time again.
Colonel Phillip Jackson:
Colonel Jackson schemes, keeps secrets, and lies, but he is certain that it is for the good of the community that he is working with Laura to build. Laura doesn’t agree. As Jackson’s past and present are exposed, he risks the one thing left in the world that he loves in order to save the Village.
Major Mark Balous:
Laura’s husband and former solider, Mark is struggling to find a place in Laura’s new life after the Last War. He becomes increasingly more jealous of Laura’s working relationship with Colonel and gives her an ultimatum—no more Jackson. His envious suspicion threatens to tear their marriage apart and possibly push her into the arms of the man he hates.
Annie Patton: Cooking and Food Preparation, Annie is Laura’s mother. Annie watches everything with cautious trepidation, always worrying about the safety of her family and the Village.
Amanda Patton: Medical and Engineering Intern, “Ammie” is Laura’s brilliant niece who struggles to keep up with all that Laura has thrown at her. Slowly but surely, Ammie is coming out of her introverted shell to become an integral part of the Village’s survival.
Specialist Brianna Patton: “Bri” is Laura’s feisty niece who speaks her mind, much to the chagrin of her superiors in the military. In her life before the war, she was a psychology student at the University and weekend warrior, but now she desperately wants to continue her studies in the post-apocalyptic world.
Adam Kinsey: Director of Out-Bounding, a team that goes out into the devastated landscape to forge for essential supplies for the Villagers. He is also Bri’s boyfriend from before the war. Adam’s capabilities in geography make him invaluable to the Village.
Jake Patton: a former cop who flies under his sister Laura’s radar most of the time.
Bailey Patton: Orphaned by the war, Laura and Mark take in the sweet child and adopt her as their own. Even in the post war, Bailey defies the odds and flourishes in her new family. But the Last War has left her with indelible emotional scars.
General (Colonel) Ellis Fitzpatrick: The General is one of the few military people with a bedside manner.
Dr. Malcolm Graham: The doctor in high demand in the post-apocalypse, and this one has what it takes to practice medicine when everything is falling apart!
Rev. John Summerlyn: Religion and Spirituality Director, Reverend John becomes Laura’s confidant and trusted friend.
Penny Waters: Communications Liaison and Laura’s charismatic best friend since childhood.
Thomas Stevenson: Engineer and Ammie’s mentor who holds onto several secrets.
Katie Graham: Psychologist and Mental Health Director, Katie is one of the most utilized experts in the Village. She has an uncanny ability to read people, and Laura uses that information in the decision making process.
Charlotte Copeland: Agriculturalist in charge of the
growing of food and medicinal herbs in the harsh nuclear winter. She is the key
to the nutritional needs of the Village and protects the seed vaults for the
future.
Steven Rolette: The leader of a burgeoning cult called God’s Warriors. He is convinced that the Last War is the Rapture. He preaches that the surviving sinners will be destroyed by God and only his followers will find a seat in heaven. His radical ways threaten both the health and safety of the group, but Laura struggles with the moral dilemma when it comes to throwing him out into the dangers of the new world.
Colonel Dirk Mason: Marine, expert on Survival and Snow Caves. Mason immediately butts heads with Laura’s non-militant ways.
Autumn Cassidy: High School Senior who was preparing for NYU Film School when her parents were killed in the Last War. Part of a group called the Clan, she travels with her only living relative, her uncle Nick Murphy.
Nick Murphy: Master Chef and Restaurateur, Autumn’s uncle and Annie’s main source of irritation.
Sergeant First Class Thad Kendall: Leader of the Clan and in a relationship with Autumn Cassidy.
Avery Wilkens: Former Waitress and Autumn’s friend, Laura takes her on as Bailey’s nanny.
